Scotland’s national tourism agency, VisitScotland, is reportedly taking advantage of the release of Pixar’s Brave in August this year to push a large, £7 million advertising campaign aiming to bring tourists to the northern British country, which will include Brave-themed television promotions in the United States and Asia.

The film, which is set in Scotland and features the voice talent of veteran Scottish actors Billy Connolly and Kelly Macdonald, was produced by the American team at Pixar, but its production was preceded by months of research by the team in the Scottish Highlands to maintain accuracy – hence the film’s emphasis on archery as sport, rather than caber tossing.

Alex Salmond, Scotland’s First Minister, is also scheduled to attend the film’s American première in Los Angeles on June 18th, and its European première in Edinburgh at the closing gala of Edinburgh’s international film festival on June 30th. Tickets for Brave’s première at the Festival Theatre are still available from the festival website here.
