An animated series based on short-lived sci-fi programme Firefly could be in the pipeline, based on a couple of brief words from the show’s cast at New York Comic-Con. After Nathan Fillion, formerly the show’s star, teased the audience during the tenth anniversary panel by saying “if we’re dreaming, tell me what you think about this: Firefly, the animated series”.
Fillion expanded on that by saying he felt “there’s less face to be lost in an animated series” and that “if there was going to be a second movie, it would have happened by now; that was eight years ago”. While his comments were taken as largely hopeful and speculative, the New York Post caught up with co-star Sean Maher, who seemed to offer something more concrete.
“I know somebody who is actually trying to get that done, who has approached Joss [Whedon] about it,” he told the Post. “He used to work with Guillermo del Toro.”
While this could disappear just as easily as it appeared, we’ll keep you updated on any further developments. Firefly, which was followed by the feature film Serenity, already has several accompanying comic books.
