The PlayStation Store in San Francisco’s Metreon shopping centre has announced that it will be closing its doors forever sometime this Summer, after over ten years of advertising and selling PlayStation goods. The store is the only PlayStation Store in existence, however there are still a number of Sony stores around the globe.
The Metreon was opened by it’s developer Sony in June 1999, containing around 350,000ft² of space inside. Sony sold its interest in 2006, but the PlayStation Store and a Sony Style Store remained inside the Metreon.
“Our lease with the Metreon for the PlayStation Store will expire this summer and we have chosen not to renew it. While we are always looking at new avenues for additional retail exposure and space, we felt it best not to continue with a dedicated PlayStation Store at the Metreon at this time.” said a representative to GameSpot.
The lease on the Sony Style store within the Metreon will expire on March 31st.
