More details about The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword have come through from Nintendo in advance of the game’s launch next month exclusively on Wii. The press release detailed areas in the game world as well as revealing some previously unmentioned gameplay elements, and was accompanied by a handful of screenshots. This follows a similar release last week detailing the Faron Woods. First mentioned here is Lake Floria, to which Link must make his way later in his quest.
Lake Floria is located in a previously undiscovered section of the Faron Woods and is home to the squid-like Parella tribe, who are making their first appearance in the Zelda franchise. Nintendo stress that even when revisiting past locations like the Faron Woods, players will occasionally “find drastic changes to the environment that require them to explore these areas in entirely different ways”. The Wii MotionPlus gives players “a natural way to control Link as he swims across the lake’s surface or into its watery depths”.
Another detailed location is Fun Fun Island, one of the small islands that float above the clouds near Link’s hometown. Before Link can enjoy the island’s presumably fun offerings, he must find a way to fulfill the request of its lone inhabitant. Players can also apparently collect bugs in certain areas between the surface and the Skyloft, which can be infused into potions purchased from the Skyloft’s bazar to create powerful new effects. Players can experiment with different potions and insects to find the concoctions that best meet their needs.
Finally, a new item, the whip, has been revealed. Link can use the whip to lash at enemies and objects, as well as pick up items and manipulate distant controls. The release stresses that Link’s items can also now be selected in real-time without pausing the game, as long as he is on the ground, making it easier to switch between a sword and other items.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is scheduled for release on Wii in Europe on November 18th, two days in advance of its North American launch on November 20th.
