The planned TV mini-series based on Nine Inch Nails album Year Zero, which was announced years ago by NIN front-person Trent Reznor, is “currently in a holding state”, according to a statement made by Reznor on Reddit.com. The show was quoted as being in “a development stage” at HBO as early as September 2010.

“[Rob Sheridan and I] didn’t find the right match with a writer, and really have been avoiding doing what we should have done from the beginning: write it ourselves,” wrote Reznor. “This project means a lot to me and will see the light of day in one form or another.”

The mini-series would have been based on the universe formed around the 2007 album, which largely concerned itself with political corruption and a Big Brother-esque government. The album’s release was accompanied by a detailed alternate reality game which spanned the Internet and revealed details of the album’s universe. You can find out more about that here.
