American actress Lindsay Lohan has seen her share of controversy over the past few years, but taking the role of screen legend Elizabeth Taylor in an upcoming TV movie might indicate her attempts to turn her reputation around.

The film, called “Liz & Dick”, was written by Christopher Monger, responsible for “Temple Grandin”, and is based on the relationship between Taylor and actor Richard Burton. It will begin principal photography in Los Angeles this June.

“I have always admired and had enormous respect for Elizabeth Taylor”, said Lohan. “She was not only an incredible actress but an amazing woman as well. I am very honoured to have been asked to play this role.”

“We are thrilled Lindsay will portray beloved Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor,” added Lifetime’s Rob Sharenow. “She is one of the rare actresses who possesses the talent, beauty and intrigue to capture the spirit of such a provocative icon.”

“Liz & Dick” will air on American cable television network Lifetime sometime next year. It’s not yet clear when (or if) it will be making its way to televisions in the United Kingdom.
