In the last hour, Sony have released a press release giving early details to the next God of War game: God of War Ascension. While it had already be confirmed to exist (along with a lengthy period where is was unconfirmed, but we still knew it existed), this is the first time Sony have offered any real information on the game.

To start with, most importantly, they have confirmed that the next game will contain an online mode. They promise that the brutal gameplay and large-scale battles that are staples of the God of War series will be brought across to the multiplayer mode, although how they’ll bring a competitive element to that (if they even try) is yet to be seen.

The press release also promises a revamped combat system although, again, they don’t really go into detail. Expect “Epic cinematic storytelling, visceral battles, and blockbuster moments,” as well as more information (and perhaps some video) from E3.
