So, here we are: November 5th, merely days away from the launch of Activision’s highly-anticipated first person shooter, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. There is no need to explain this title, as it is the newest addition to one of the world’s most iconic and well-known franchises. As these cold and windy dark nights are beginning to roll in as Winter approaches, which I’m sure for any CoD fan will be largely comprised of perching beside the fireplace and ranking up, I write to ask you this: “which will be better: Battlefield 3 or Modern Warfare 3?”
This may be an infinite argument, with no real dimension by which someone can appoint a definitive victor, but is it too hard to bring an argument for one of the two to light? Believe me, I am no Battlefield veteran. I would probably consider myself as more of a CoD hard nut, but I understand the Battlefield franchise, and was a rather proficient player when the Battlefield 3 disc was in one of our 360s. So, it’s come to the part of this article where I should list pros and cons, remain impartial, and allow our readers to formulate their own views.
Well, that’s not going to happen; I just can’t. It’s too important a matter in the Xbox 360 community to remain faceless in this issue. To me, this is the question that really matters: “can the game stay in the drive?”. There are many big titles that have seen the light of day, and then been played - but only for a short time. For me, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 was such a title; it was an excellent game with awesome realism and style, but its “hardcore” factor killed it for me by being too team-based and difficult.
I couldn’t keep it in the drive for much more than a week. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was much different. Modern Warfare 2 matched its hype in 2009, with great gameplay in both campaign and multiplayer, sound physics, and excellent style. I rarely found it unenjoyable in multiplayer, and with these important game mechanics, it’s stayed in one of our 360 drives to this day.
Although many will argue that this is only a simplified argument, I do believe that this is really what matters in today’s first person shooter market. If Modern Warfare 3 has the staying power that gamers desire come November 8th, Battlefield 3 will meet its zero hour far earlier than expected. Ah, I know! It must be because they both have a ‘3’ in the title! LIKE SLY 3 OR MSG 3 OR JAK 3! They were all epix! The secret to the formula is obviously the number 3.

Despite both having great pluses and even bigger negatives. Neither games devs gives two shits about anything past money. Thus my opinion is MW3 because at least they know how to take my money.

I don’t feel that these two games should really be compared. I know that they both are based around modern-day combat and war; but I feel that they are different from one another to an extent that this comparison and arguement isn’t really relevant.

In reply to other comments, Ratchet and Clank all of them were awesome, and so were Sly, and Jak! However to this, I do feel they should be cause although they have the same core gamplay, there are so much differences, battlefield puts more emphasis on teams whereas cod is more of a solo thing most of the time, not to mention battlefields realism compared to cod not just with graphics being a lot better but the bullet drop after certain distance, buildings blowing up, usable vehicles other than killstreaks. BUT IN THE END, they are both still FPS and to put it bluntly cod is more addictive and popular.

I prefer Battlefield 3. IF you want a realistic warfare game, go with Battlefield 3. The FrostBite engine is extremely impressive, and not to be underestimated.
