Minecraft developer Markus Persson has joined the ranks of many PC developers, including Gabe Newell, who have criticised Windows 8 for “trying to ruin the PC as an open platform”. The developer made his opinions clear in a brief tweet earlier today.

“Got an email from Microsoft, wanting to help “certify” Minecraft for Win 8,” he wrote. “I told them to stop trying to ruin the PC as an open platform. […] I’d rather have Minecraft not run on Win 8 at all than to play along.”

Written in Java, Minecraft is fully compatible with Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X operating systems; there’s also a “Pocket Edition” available for Android mobiles, and the Xbox 360 Edition on console. You can find out more on the official Minecraft website here.
