Director Gary Ross’ film adaptation of “The Hunger Games” has been lauded by critics and is doing remarkably well at the box office – so naturally, the studio have confirmed the follow-up, which will be based on the second book in the series, “Catching Fire”. However, with Ross not yet confirmed to direct, rumours are circulating that he may be replaced – and The Playlist claim he’s definitely out.
Josh Hutcherson, however, who played Peeta in the first film, told movie news website ComingSoon.net that he fully expected Ross to return. “He killed the first one, absolutely knocked it out of the park. Everyone loved him. Myself, Jennifer and the others loved him. I couldn’t imagine making another movie without him, so that’s what I have to say about that…”
Lionsgate are aiming to start shooting the film in August ahead of a theatrical release of August 22nd, 2013 in North America. Stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will both reprise their roles as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, and will be joined by Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne.
