The PlayStation Network outage continues, and Sony have attributed it to an “external intrusion” on their system. The PSN and Qriocity services were shut off on April 20th in order to “conduct a thorough investigation and to verify the smooth and secure operation of our network services”. Many believe Anonymous is to blame for the attack. However, Anonymous have not taken responsibility as a group for organising the attack, and deny involvement in this news post.
“While it could be the case that other Anons have acted by themselves, AnonOps was not related to this incident and does not take responsibility for whatever has happened,” reads an open letter from the loosely-defined organisation’s activist front. “A more likely explanation is that Sony is taking advantage of Anonymous’ previous ill-will towards the company to distract users from the fact that the outage is actually an internal problem with the company’s servers.”
