Paradox Interactive have announced an upcoming piece of downloadable content for Crusader Kings II, which will, in an odd twist, introduce the game’s first fantasy scenario. Called Sunset Invasion, it poses the question: “what would have happened if the Aztecs invaded 13th Century Europe?”. Paradox have clarified it is “a small DLC and not a full-blown expansion”.
The expansion brings “a wealth of new features”, as well as the new Aztec religion and cultures, the ability to sacrifice humans from captured lands, and a new disease brought from the American continent which has a fatal impact on native Europeans. That is unusually ahistoric for Paradox, but makes sense for a low-price “diversion” towards the endgame. According to statements from the development team, the Aztecs will not be playable.
The expansion is slated for release on November 15th 2012 for $4.99 USD. You can check out some early screenshots from the expansion below.
