Paradox Interactive today announced the Legacy of Rome expansion for Crusader Kings II, which adds new functionality to the game when playing as the Byzantine Empire of its vassals by introducing features like “Leader Focus”, appointing your own Orthodox patriarch, “greater control over where you demand levies from your vassals”, and new events and decisions.
The expansion pack, which will go on sale towards the end of the year for $9.99 USD, will also see the Byzantine Empire’s vassals split into factions, which band together to revolt intelligently against your rule. That’s why “Leader Focus” places more focus on generals’ skills, meaning battles themselves must be carefully co-ordinated; and new Self-Improvement ambitions have been added to facilitate improving character stats.
Retinues are now also available, allowing players to have standing armies in their realm, their size determined by technology; and you’ll be able to raise levies from specific holdings more easily, so that a direct vassal’s levy can be raised without any need to worry about the opinions of the lower vassals. New commander traits are also more widespread, and users will be able to join royal factions themselves.
